CPA’s Jake Allsmiller

Christ Presbyterian Academy’s Jake Allsmiller has moved up to 11th nationally on career 3-pointers with 392.

Lipan’s (Texas) Randall Carlisle set the record with 516 from 2002-05.

Allsmiller, a 6-foot-5 senior guard who has signed with Georgia Southern, made a career-high 12 3-pointers in Tuesday’s 110-49 win at Cascade.

He missed his first 3-point attempt before rattling off eight in arrow. Then he missed two and made his last four to go 12-of-15 from beyond the 3-point arc. Allsmiller scored a career-high 41 points.

Cascade played a 2-3 zone defense and Allsmiller kept shooting over the top of it

“We were seeing if they were going to come out of it the entire time, but they stayed in it and I just kept on shooting it,” Allsmiller said. “Once I started getting on a run it started feeling pretty good and it started feeling like the rims were getting wider and wider a little bit. It was a lot of fun.”

Allsmiller’s sharpshooting lightened the workload for 6-8 forward Braxton Blackwell, CPA’s leading rebounder.

“Oh, it was crazy,” Blackwell said. “I was telling my parents that night after a while I just stopped going in for rebounds because I knew it was going in. For him to shoot like that shows he’s the best shooter in the state of Tennessee.”

Booker T. Washington’s Taurean Moy holds the state record with 506 3-pointers from 1998–2001, ranking him third nationally.

“I’ve been saying it for years and I continue to say it: He’s the most prolific shooter that I’ve seen in Nashville and I’ve had the privilege of coaching a lot of great shooters,” Lions coach Drew Maddux said. “Great shooters have to have a short-term memory. If they miss a couple, it can’t matter. You have to continue to shoot it and Jake has amnesia. We believe in him and he believes in himself.”

Allsmiller is six 3-pointers away from moving into a 10th-place tie with Paducah St. Mary’s (Ky.) Ryan Cochran entering Friday’s game at Spring Hill.
